BUILT OVER TIME
The Museum’s overall vision remains unchanged, but its development has advanced through a strategic phased approach designed to build momentum and ensure long-term sustainability.
The first phase prioritizes creating engaging visitor experiences that immediately bring the story of lifeguarding to life through large-scale digital displays, immersive storytelling environments, multimedia presentations, archival imagery, and interactive content. These elements will allow visitors of all ages to explore the evolution of lifeguarding, from its historic origins to modern lifesaving innovation.
In addition, Phase One establishes flexible space within the Museum to host community gatherings, educational programs, meetings, and special events, positioning the Museum as an active community hub from the outset. Organizing the project into phases allows continued fundraising and partnership development while gradually expanding exhibits and programming over time. Each phase builds upon the last, reflecting the core lifeguarding principles of preparation, adaptability, and steady progress toward a clear and lasting goal.
Museum Development Progress
We are excited to share that the ILM is currently working with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) to identify a design team to prepare design development drawings for Phase One of the project — a significant milestone that moves the Museum from vision to visible progress.
Phase One: Creating an Immersive Foundation
With Phase One of the International Lifeguard Museum now approved and moving forward, the next step is inviting our community to help shape what comes next.
In the coming months, the Museum will announce a special event to officially kick off the public fundraising campaign supporting the full scope of the Museum project. This gathering will bring together supporters, partners, and community leaders to celebrate the progress already achieved while looking ahead to the next stages of development.
The event will serve as an opportunity to engage our growing network, share the complete vision for the Museum, and unite around a shared mission to preserve lifeguard history, advance water safety education, and create a lasting cultural destination.
Together, we will celebrate how far we have come and forge the path forward — building the International Lifeguard Museum through partnership, collaboration, and collective commitment.
